Blue Ridge Parkway

Still trying to get caught up.

Monday, June 14, 2010

We left Morganton, NC and headed to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stopped along the way at many of the overlooks and museums or visitor centers.

Avrey on one of the large rocks on display at the Museum of North Carolina Minerals.

Arley on one of the large rocks on display at the Museum of North Carolina Minerals.

A view of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the North Cove overlook.

One of our visitors - a Red Spotted Purple butterfly.

A view of the Linn Cove Viaduct from below along the short hike at one of the overlooks.

Along the walk, there is a rock formation with a natural spring running down.

Another view of the Blue Ridge Mountains from the Wilson Creek Valley overlook.

The last stop was at the Moses H Cone Memorial Park Visitor & Craft Center. It's a beautiful building. A storm hit while we were there and sat in the parking lot for a while until it cleared a bit.

It was getting late so we headed out to find a motel for the night. We stayed at a Comfort Suites in Boone, NC. It was quite wonderful. We had two deluxe rooms on the first floor. They were quite deluxe with two large beds and a very nice sitting area with two comfortable chairs and a sofa. The bathroom was outstanding, it had a whirlpool tub and shower. Hated to leave there.
