Reminiscing

Have been doing a little reminiscing about things from my childhood lately.

We used to have a 'family reunion' every Labor Day weekend at Lake of the Woods State Park.  These were so much fun and I miss them.

We always got the same picnic area every year.  We would get there early and claim all the tables in that area.  It was close to the lake.  Slowly people would start arriving.  Us kids would take all for all parts of the park.  We would climb the bell tower, run around all over, cross the swing bridge and make it swing like there was no tomorrow.  Some of the guys would fish, sometimes we would rent paddle boats.  Eventually, we would head back and eat and then back out again.

The food was always amazing.  Mother would make her to die for pineapple bars, always have a large container of lemonade and iced tea.  Plus have a cooler full of pop.  We always had the usual picnic fare.  I remember one year, a cousin of my dad brought several watermelons but one didn't make it to the table to be cut.  He had thrown it at my brother who was not expecting it and it went splat on the ground.  We all had a huge laugh over the incident.

I miss those days.  And I miss the picnic each year.
